In the past few decades, China has released culturally significant films including The Birth of New China (1949), This Life of Mine (1950), Spicy Love Soup (1997), and Curse of the Golden Flower (2006), proving itself as an ideal location for film production. The rise of influential directors, such as Zhang Yimou, Red Sorghum (1988), Raise the Red Lantern (1991), The Story of Qiu Ju (1992), and To Live (1994), has inspired a new generation of Chinese filmmakers to share their visions with the world. To help facilitate the professional development of these filmmakers, NYFA launched filmmaking programs in 2011, located in Beijing, China. The hands-on programs are in partnership with Beijing Film Academy and CCTV, and teach students to write, shoot, direct, and produce their own short films. In 2012, NYFA was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China as an accredited educational institute of higher learning.
